Another Day in Paradise

Introduction

Another Day in Paradise is a game made during the Global Game Jam 2016. The theme of that jam was « Ritual » . With this theme in mind, we decided to treat about the daily routine that quickly install in the everyone’s day to day life and how it can feel like a cage that limits your life.

To do so, we decide to make a top down view adventure game in which you need to fulfill your need by working, buying, sleeping and repeat, it’s up to you to find a way to escape that ritual, without losing too much time and starving to death.

The game

The game is all about finding a way out of your routine while also responding to all your needs. Your have two needs : Eating and sleeping, they are represented as number going from 100 to 0, if one of those two reaches 0, you will either starve to death or die of a lack of sleep.

To respond to those needs, you will need to earn money to spend it on food and to sleep at your home as soon as you need it.

Despite all that, you still have a little bit of free time, managing this free time to explore the world and his possible interaction is the key to finding a way out of this tiring and repetitive life.

My roles

On this project I served as game designer, defining the game mechanics and setting up the basic loops of the game. But I also worked on the 3D modeling of the game, making all the props and environment used in the game.
